FAQs

From planning and payments to passports and travel protection, you'll find answers to our most frequently asked questions right here.

Why should I use a travel advisor instead of booking online?

Working with a travel advisor saves you time, helps you avoid costly mistakes, and gives you a trusted expert to turn to before, during, and after your trip. I also have access to exclusive promotions, added amenities, and trusted travel partners you may not find on your own.

Does it cost more to book through Ad Astra Journeys?

In most cases, no. Many vacations cost the same—or even less—than booking directly. Some custom itineraries or specialized planning services may include a planning fee, but you'll always know about any fees before you book.

What types of travel do you book?

I can help with all-inclusive resorts, cruises, guided tours, luxury vacations, river cruises, destination celebrations, business travel, family vacations, and custom itineraries. If you're not sure where to go, I'll help you find the perfect destination.

Can you help if something goes wrong while I'm traveling?

Absolutely. One of the biggest benefits of working with a travel advisor is having someone in your corner. If flights are delayed, plans change, or unexpected issues arise, I'll help you navigate the situation and work toward the best possible solution.

How far in advance should I plan my trip?

It depends on the type of vacation you're dreaming about. For bucket-list adventures, I recommend starting the planning process two years or more in advance. If you're traveling to a popular destination or during peak season, aim to book at least a year ahead for the best availability and pricing. For a classic beach getaway, six to nine months is usually ideal—it gives us time to watch for the best fares and promotions. And while planning ahead is almost always the best strategy, there's always a chance to score a fantastic last-minute deal!

How do I get started?

Because I'm often meeting with clients, working with travel suppliers, or training on new destinations, email is the best way to reach me. Once we've started the conversation, I'll be happy to share my direct phone number if that's your preferred way to connect.

Send an email to adastrajourneys@gmail.com. To help me get to know your travel plans, please include who is traveling, where you'd like to go, your preferred travel dates, your approximate budget, and your preferred method of contact. If you have any "must-haves" or special requests, include those too!

Can we meet in person?

Absolutely! While many of my clients enjoy the convenience of planning their vacations online or by phone, I'm happy to meet in person if that's your preference. I have an office in Ottawa and typically schedule appointments in the evenings, though I'm happy to work around your schedule whenever possible.

Do I really need trip insurance?

I completely understand the hesitation—after investing in your vacation, adding another expense can be difficult to justify. I've had clients tell me they plan to travel even if they aren't feeling their best. But sometimes life has other plans. What happens if you come down with appendicitis, need treatment for kidney stones, your pet needs unexpected surgery, or a family member is hospitalized and you need to cancel or come home early?

Travel insurance isn't just about protecting your vacation investment; it's about protecting yourself from the unexpected. At a minimum, I recommend coverage for travel delays, missed connections, emergency medical care, and emergency evacuation. The right policy can provide valuable peace of mind so you can enjoy your journey knowing you have support if something unexpected happens.
